Artistic Approach To Posterior Occlusal Anatomy

Since the beginning of my career, I have always been fascinated by posterior occlusal anatomy. Many of my colleagues share the same interest. Because of my passion for this subject, I felt a strong need to develop techniques that would keep the burrs off my carefully layered occlusal anatomy once I delivered the restorations. A restoration that has been ground flat either fully or partially, is not only ugly, but functionally challenged since it would lack important functional elements that were eliminated (the stuff that makes it look like a real tooth!). Many dentists accept this type of results as long as the patient is free of lateral premature contacts, while the restoration is compromised functionally and esthetically. Pete Dawson once said that the smile really starts in the back of the mouth. I believe he is right. If nothing else, I would be embarrassed to show a case that had beautiful anterior restorations, but esthetically and functionally deficient posterior restorations.

What I would like to share with you

  • How to create and maintain the exact number, position, and shape of centric stops.
  • How to be artistic while following natural design and function.
  • How to layer ridges and inclines that actually function and look natural, within the deflection zone, without becoming premature contacts.
  • When and how to create wear facets
  • How to choose the proper ceramic layering scheme for posterior restorations.

This is a practical, hands-on approach to a very challenging everyday task. In spite of many different courses on this subject, I find that my approach to this task is very simple and involves basic common sense, that is, once you understand the fundamental principles of practical dental anatomy and function. Many talented ceramist can free-hand very natural looking posterior anatomy, but not many can actually do the same within the confinements dictated by the patient's opposing dentition or masticatory challenges. This is what this course is all about. I know many of us would have an aspiring ceramist working in our laboratories and this course is really a must for them even if you don't believe me.

Fee

$950.00
Breakfast and Lunch will be provided.

All Ceramic Bonded Restorations and Advanced Esthetic Restorative Procedures

Dentist and technicians are equal partners in delivering excellence. Most of the time neither fully understand what the other needs to do their best. This course is designed for dentist and technicians who want to understand what they can do to make their partner's job easier and better. Principles and techniques for success with all ceramic restorations will be covered from the dentist and lab perspective. The hands-on exercises will cover from prep to seat for both the dentist and technician.

Dentists will learn

  • The things that cause all ceramic restorations to fail and what you can do to make them last
  • A new preparation design for new tops on back teeth that conserves natural tooth structure
  • New preparation designs for all ceramic restorations in seven different situations
  • Cordless impression technique that is kind to the tissue and yields a perfect impression
  • How to fabricate prototypes (temporaries) that mimic the final result that the patient can use as a road test
  • A bonding technique that gives "0" sensitivity and high bond strength
  • How to communicate with the lab to get higher quality work and predictable results

Technicians will learn:

Dental technicians will participate along with their dentist counterpart in the design and fabrication of all-ceramic bonded restorations.

Technicians will learn and solidify their knowledge about the principles that guarantee the success of all-ceramic bonded restorations, including preparation design, occlusal management, fabrication procedures, and how to achieve natural looking esthetics.

Because of the intense hands-on nature of this course, attendance is limited to 8 participants and 2 observers. Call for more information and to reserve your space. This course grants 20 hours of CE and a certificate of completion.
